7×77 – The Forgiveness Formula
“Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”
Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy-seven times seven.” – Matthew 18:21-22
The power of forgiveness is newly being discovered especially after the release of Nelson Mandela from South African prison. Bishop Desmond Tutu has written extensively about forgiveness.
Forgiveness is one of the secret formulas of the Christian Church which has not been practiced enough. It is a cornerstone of Armodoxy.
On Sunday, April 24, 2005 a group of men and women, donning t-shirts with the mathematical notation “7×77″ lined up with their arms extended and their palms touching – to represent a human ribbon of 7’s. On this 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, these decedents of survivors of the darkest day in modern history, walked in the shoes of a generation who knew only suffering. They made a human chain of love and solidarity. They walked in the shoes of Christ knowing that love is a greater power than evil.”
