Fresh Air from Buenos Aires

April 15, 2010/0 Comments/in The Next Step

Next Step #97 – April 15, 2010

From beautiful Argentina, the Next Step comes with some fresh air – dropping the In His Shoes seeds in a new generation. Taking responsibility for Genocide as children of Genocide, Fr. Vazken expounds on the philosophy of the Next Step. Here is a primer for our ministry laced with examples and stories from a short visit to the South American community in Buenos Aires.  Is there an “answer” to Genocide? And what is the “next step” – all in this remote podcast.
Music: “Amen Hayr Sourp” played by Gagik Gasparyan (www.rgsmusic.com.ar) and Astor Piazzolla “Suite Troileana” as background;
Ani’s bubbles: “Simple Truths of Service”;

April 8, 2010/0 Comments/in The Next Step

Next Step #96 – April 8, 2010

A Post-Easter walk around the Armenian Church locally, and the Christian Church globally. Making the Good News of the Empty Tomb a way of life. Correcting our outlook with a focus on the intention of what Easter and our faith is all about. More possibilities of a virtual church as In His Shoes goes to the Southern Hemisphere.

Ani’s Bubbles “Island Rescue”;
Produced by Suzie Shatarevyan for Epostle.net;

Menu for the Second Coming

March 18, 2010/0 Comments/in The Next Step

Next Step #93: A very “Meaty” podcast for the Lenten Season. Exploring the Second Coming of Christ – the Armodoxy way! A clip from the televangelist’s infomercial will make you believe you’ve tuned in to Saturday Night Live. But don’t despair – there is hope on the horizon – not for $39.95, not even for two payments of $19.95. More on Women in the Church as a listener shares her frustration and Fr. Vazken calls for a serious look at participation in the Armenian Church.

From Women to Reformation

March 11, 2010/0 Comments/in The Next Step

Next Step #92 – March 11, 2010

 Beyond women in the church, here’s a look at the possibility of reform, through protest. The story of Seta Simonian – first woman acolyte of the Orthodox Church in America. The World Vision workers martyred in Pakistan are remembered. Letters from listeners and a “Letter to Hitler” all part of this mix. A call to action and reformation dominates the ending.

Escape to the Desert, but not from Life

March 4, 2010/0 Comments/in The Next Step

Next Step #91 – March 4, 2o1o

On Location at the Nevada/Arizona boarder – this message comes from the desert where God has painted the rocks with His artistic style. Drugs, alcohol, the desert and even religion (ala Marx) is escapism, but Jesus approaches the topic via an unusual parable, that of the “Dishonest Steward.” Views of the Grand Canyon and our digital lifestyle gives way to thoughts about immortality – not to be excluded by Sirac (have you heard of this book?). The Chilean earthquake knocks Earth (not Robertson) off of its axis. A visit to the St. Jude Ranch for Children and the groundwork for Fr. Vazken’s vision/dream for unwed mothers and children of domestic violence. Isn’t half of 40 = 20? An explanation for “Michink” – why Wednesday and not Saturday? Pray for us, St. Thaddeus.

Heart Prints

February 25, 2010/0 Comments/in The Next Step

Next Step #90 – February 25, 2010

Has anyone ever tried Christianity? Karl Marx’s challenge is applied to Christianity. Can the Prodigal answer that challenge? Answers to the questions concerning the Vazkenian Seminary – Find out where and who these people are. Fr. Vazken opens a candid view of the priest during the Lenten season – what are some of his challenges? And a surprise message from the 1200th Century – in St. Nersess Shnorahali’s Ninth Hour of the Havadov Khosdovanim. Finally – the evolution toward the “Next” step. The causes of sin and usurping God’s power: A different look at Expulsion Sunday. Check out the warning label on some of your OT stories: Religion is not for children. Fairy tales make for good camera, but can scare the kids (and us) to the point of no return. Returning to paradise is a goal beyond the stories.
