Lights on in the TZ

Next Step #451: The Chalcedon and Fahrenheit edition. The “business” of the Church. The three Ecumenical Councils of the Universal Christian Church. AMen to Armenian men Arizona style. Negative diseases: Sifting through the pessimism of Trump’s Inagural Address and the follow up protests. Bizarre moments of jumping state lines. The Optimism that is fueled by pessimism. Distractions, coverings and missing the message of Life: The burden of attention. Focusing and actualizing truth and embracing the good – some practical answers. Man & Money: Treasure & Heart – the money factor in the Church equation. Expansion of Epostle ministry.

Orange Color Politics

Next Step #439: Politics is front and center in this episode as Fr. Vazken visits his childhood church, remembers the ugly politics inside the church and now  on the world stage with US elections in a few days. Social ethics – the importance of self-determination and a rejection of destiny, finding the tools to make our decisions. A metaphysical discussion has political and practical implications and applications in our world today. And no, we don’t serve on the altar!

Digestive Time

Next Step #435: It takes time to digest, whether food or ideas, but eventually the body and mind is nurtured. The Bradley Effect in Politics (e.g., Trump or Brexit) and now, as Fr. Vazken connects it, in religion. Using reasoning and logic, and not checking the brain at the door at church. Connecting dots along the way.

Exercising Exorcism

Next Step #430: (rebroadcast of episode #70) It’s not all about head-spins and vomit, as Fr. Vazken follows up on reports of exorcism. The nature/nurture argument in defining evil and the devil. Where are balances of good and evil in our lives. Bulletin from the Vatican about New Media in the church. A look at spirituality in the world and rising trends.

Pointers

Next Step #418: Fr. Vazken points to a couple of examples of activism – one reactive another proactive – both worthy of attention and emulation. At UCSD a racist blurb demands reaction that goes beyond ethnic protectionism. In Van Nuys, a father is honored for life-long activism in the Church. Paths toward peace and becoming the instruments of that peace. The courteous side of atheism and more.

Depth of Spirit

Next Step #415: When a daughter brings her father’s treasures to Fr. Vazken, it sets the backdrop for three dimensional conversation. Pentecost is the coming of the Holy Spirit which adds depth to the flatness of two dimensional reality making the Church active. The obligation to speak out with the voice.

Inside Logical Margins

Next Step #413: From a lecture by Prof. Hrair Dekmejian, some thoughts on the prospect for strength and peace in Karabagh – taping into the Christianity the “Artsakh way.”  Finding the miracle: “the Epicenter of that Miracle is the Church.” No holding punches here.  Also the business of the church as an institution with function. When did we blow it?

Next Step #406: Meditations at Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion and on St. Patrick’s day begs the question: When did we lose sight of the goals? Justifying without checks and balances and legitimizing absurd decisions and expenses in the Church. Blow ups: Easter eggs and peeps. The poor and the suffering in the shadows of the church today: do they differ from those in Jesus’ shadow 2000 years ago? The impossibility of internal evaluation in the Church with the risk of damaging institutional-preservation. This is a pre-Holy week meditation for the Church and each individual believer.
