Alec Baldwin’s accidental bullet, investigations and missing investigations from bullets sold to kill. Armodoxy today: removing from under the bushel basket. Hans Küng – theologian and priest – a missed passing (1928-2021).

Changing Lens

Next Step with Fr. Vazken #687: An interview with Ani Shahinian, candidate in History and Theology at the University of Oxford. Hear her articulate the teachings (vadapetutyiun) of the Armenian Church as expressed through a group of doctors of the church. Switching political lens for religious, here is an understanding of identity through Scripture, Culture and Tradition. Shahinian brings energy and knowledge that will inspire the listener to learn more about the amazing Christian Faith of the Armenian Church.

Afterlife Connections

Next Step #683: Extreme Unction, a sacrament of the Armenian Church, is perhaps one of the seven that is most misunderstood. And why have some reduced the list to six? Fr. Vazken starts the discussion on the secular plane, with current political trends and the place of faith in evaluating your belief system, and takes the conversation to end-of-life reflections. Don’t check-in your brain at the door for this one; uncomfortable for some, it’s an important discussion in Armodoxy.

Good-heart Bible

Next Step #639: Does over analysis and applying reason to the Bible lead you away from Faith? It’s the starting question for this discussion, recognizing there are no wrong questions. Mark 4:35f and hardness of heart: doubt vs. experience. Reconciling absurdity with Faith: Learning and testing through vs computer programming. A different look at the rules that define us.

Plastic: Molding Faith

Next Step #638: As the political atmosphere heats up with elections two months away, religion, particularly Christianity, comes into question as politicians justify actions and policy with a wide variety of departures on theology. Fr. Vazken offers a primer on politics and the use of religion, finding the grey matter between the black and white, conservative and liberal. Qualifying politicians by the Christian scale: the plasticity of the faith to conform to the world and an Armodoxy look.

Badarak in the Age of Pandemic

Next Step #618: Holy/Great Thursday and the Institution of the Last Supper, the Holy Badarak, that is, the means by which we connect to the life-saving Crucifixion and celebrate the Resurrection. Thanks to technology we’re watching in our living rooms, with candles, incense and prayers. The message of St. Basil is read during the Liturgy explaining the essence of the Eucharist: “Never look at this as bread and wine” … it is the life-giving blood and body of our Lord Jesus Christ. Now… that being said, what are we fearing? Where is our faith? How can a virus so small stand between us and the Lord’s Body. In this episode Fr. Vazken shares insights about the Badarak today and the adaptation to ultra-pandemics in the past. How to participate in the virtual ceremonies?
