Revisiting Kindred Spirits

Next Step #554: Just in time or perhaps as a matter of reflecting in time, a revisit to Next Step #31 – Kindred Spirits: John the Baptist and Martin Lurther King Jr., two giants – one a Biblical figure, the other contemporary, yet they serve the same God and the same Lord. What is the legacy left by these ushers of the Way? Fr. Vazken brings together the work and mission that has driven these people to point the way to Christ. They stood up courageously against the power structure, urging peace, justice, and love, even unto death, and thus became martyrs for their unwavering preaching of the Kingdom of God. Also, a look at the life and ministry of Fr. Mesrob Sarafian, an archpriest of the Armenian Church. Also: Ani’s Spiritual Bubbles on “Dreams”.

A Spare Pair

Next Step #528 – July 19, 2018 – Stories inspire us on many levels. Some are true stories of individuals who share the gift of God with us all, others teach with metaphors. Fr. Dajad Davidian (1934-2018) is remembered for his ministry and inspiration. Thoughts from Walden Pond, Thoreau and Jethro Tull’s 1973 release of the “Hare Who Lost His Spectacles” are the food (savored this time around) for thought in this week’s edition of the Next Step.

Fr. Daniel Findikyan Interview

Next Step #521: The newly elected Primate of the Armenian Church, Eastern Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Daniel Findikyan talks about the challenges before him. In this interview with Fr. Vazken, Fr. Daniel shares his thoughts and insights about the Armenian Church and specifically in the historic American diocese. “It is now time for the Church to be the Church… We have the opportunity and the obligation to be what the Church has uniquely been called to be… To fulfill that mission which has been given uniquely to the Church of the Armenians and to no one else. We need to focus our mission on that which is exclusive and is the exclusive God-given prerogative of the Body of Christ among the Armenian people.” Unique guidance as unique as a primate from the Lone-Star state.

Where’d everyone go?

Next Step #512: A mid-Holy Week tally of who’s who and what’s what. What happened to the thousands of friends who ushered Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and left him alone for his death only four days later? Don’t wait for Easter to be April fooled! Singling out Pilate – no Judas here – in a second-creed puts Easter in the history book and out of the connection book. Heading out to Utah to celebrate Easter and the Holy Divine Liturgy, Fr. Vazken shares a very special resurrection message.
