Next Step #411: Disenfranchised/Disillusioned Priests: Moving beyond “Props” and finding a message of “Liberation” through Christ. More political humor… Here is a message for the 101st Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Sainthood of the Martyrs moving to victory from victimization. And some personal reflections from the early Karabagh movement. Good feelings for a few words.

Props for the Play

Next Step #410: Quest for Peace – a different way of looking at responsibility in Artsakh & Armenia. As clergy are placed as props* in the grand opera, here’s a chance to reject political agendas and opt for self-determination in sync with Christ’s invitation. Taking Christ OUT of the Church is not too bad when you realize it’s demanded by Christ Himself. Much food for thought in this edition.
* Definition of Prop: a pole or beam used as a support or to keep something in position, typically one that is not an integral part of the thing supported.

The Orthodoxy of Dr. King’s Message

Next Step #84 – January 14, 2010

You don’t need CES or 3D to be enveloped in Christianity, just dare to bring Christ off of the altar and you might dare to call Martin Luther King, orthodox! On the eve of the MLK Retreat, Fr. Vazken looks at the teachings of non-violence by Gandhi, Dr. King and Cesar Chavez and the One who inspired them all. Finding spirituality in the messages of hope. A letter from Paul to the Americans? It’s just a prophet speaking to the times and against hypocrisy – as did St. John the Forerunner. And did someone call Robertson a Christian? Theophany – Juxtaposing Christ and Darfur

Next Step #83 – January 6, 2010

Theophany as a way of life today and not only in history. How can you be excited about “Christ being born” while Children are dying in Darfur? Fr. Vazken takes the listener through a thought-process and arrives at the Nativity/Revelation of God as a participant in a Living Message. Start of the New Year with a candid revelation of disappointments within the institution of church as well.

The Poor, the Prisoners, and the Blind

Next Step #19 – October 22, 2008

In the Gospel of Luke Jesus says,
“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
This week Fr. Vazken explores finding peace in our lives and understanding Christ’s mission. Poverty does not equate having empty pockets, prisoners are not those in jail cells, the blind are not those without eyeballs in their sockets. This is a podcast that sets the cornerstone for all others because it describes the mission of the Christian church and the work of Christians in this world. Take a journey with Fr. Vazken as he reveals the special place this passage holds in his ministry.

Vartavar – The Transfiguration Feast

Next Step #2

This coming Sunday is referred to as Vartavar; a pagan feast transfigured into a Christian one. So today Fr. Vazken takes the next step to a place called Transfiguration. Jesus’ transfiguration is documented in several of the Gospels including the scene in Matthew 17 where Christ reveals His illumined Divinity. His face shines like the sun and his garments become as white as light. What does all of this mean to us today? How does Pink Floyd figure into this? Do transfigs only grow in California? Tune in to Armenian Orthodoxy. Take the next step!
